The Rosary is as modem as the faith of the people praying it. If the people "saying" the Rosary are just rhyming off rote words, then, for many, it probably won't seem like an experience of faith. But when praying the Rosary is a real sharing of faith-where we hear our own experience of the Holy Spirit, echoed in the faith response of those we are praying with, then faith comes alive right here, right now! Even though the "Hail Mary" and "Holy Mary" prayer formulas are repetitive, the experience reminds us of ocean waves, one after another, striking the shore. The Rosary is like waves of faith washing over those gathered in prayer. That happens when we are not just saying words, but praying the Mysteries of faith. Then the Rosary offers another way for believers to proclaim (as we do at Mass: "Christ has died, Christ is risen; Christ will come again!"
Of course, this explanation "works" only in communal recitation of the Rosary - when we pray the Rosary with others. But the Rosary is a popular private prayer which people often pray alone. Even then, the notion of shared faith can still apply with a little imagination. First of all, a Christian is never alone when praying. The fact that we are God's family puts me "with" others in spirit even when I pray, physically alone. And besides, perhaps it is not too far fetched for me to imagine that the "Holy Mary" response (even when I say it myself) is an echo of family or friends whom I love - answering to my "Hail Mary" expression of faith.
SHARE LENT- "THE EARTH IS FOR ALL"
Our community is asked to make ourselves aware of the needs of the countries that will benefit from the Share Lent Campaign. To that end the children's catechism groups, the CWL & the KC'S have embarked on a series of 'mini-events' to raise funds while keeping the people of Rwanda, El Salvador, & Nigeria in our thoughts and prayers. We ask for your generous support for the following events:We would ask that you 'plan' for each of these events & help support our youth in their Lenten observance of Doing Good Works.
