SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

A man with leprosy came to Jesus, and kneeling, begged him:
"You can made me clean".

KNEELING/STANDING/BOWING AT THE CONSECRATION DURING MASS

Since this change of posture is new to the congregation some people have requested that the Celebrant remind the congregation at the appropriate time in Mass. That reminder will be offered for several Sundays into the future. Those who choose to kneel, do so after reciting/singing "Hosanna in the highest" (in the "Holy, Holy, Holy"). The congregation stands for the Acclamation of Faith after the elevation of the chalice. And as the General Instruction urges, "Those who are prevented from kneeling at the consecration by reason of health, lack of space, the large number of people present, or some other good reason should make a profound bow while the priest is genuflecting after the consecration:. In support of those who want to be faithful to the spirit of the liturgy in these ways, from now on we will put these practices into effect at Sunday Mass.

OUR PILGRIMAGE OF FAITH:

has realized $8,379.00 to date. 27 parishioners have contributed. Last year, due to the generosity of one donor-family (& the dollar-matching plan that resulted), the campaign netted almost $10,000 in excess of our assessed goal. This enabled several maintenance projects to be undertaken (especially in the Rectory) that could not have been accomplished otherwise. Any monies collected over and above this year's $12,000 assessed goal will remain in the parish.

BURSARIES

are offered annually by the Sisters of St. Joseph of London to anyone who would like to train for ministry in the local Church. Courses may be brief (a week or two), a semester, or year-long. The deadline for applying is Apr. 15th & application forms are available on the bulletin board in the foyer.

MINISTRY TO THE SICK:

  1. The Liturgy Committee is initiating the apostolate of "Ministry to the sick". Anyone who would like to volunteer in this ministry is requested to contact Mary McLaughlin (347-7764). Preparation/training will be offered to those who are new to this ministry.
  2. Whenever someone is in hospital, a family member is requested to inform Fr. Gordon or Mary McLaughlin.
  3. As soon as this Ministry is under way, we sill celebrate a "Commissioning Rite" at a Sunday Mass to highlight the fact that the Ministers are bringing Communion to the sick.

CHILDREN's MASS - March 23rd

Coffee & goodies will be served after. Welcome new members to the Parish. It's a way of meeting our parishoners!

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE COORDINATOR NEEDED:

http://www.devp.com The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) is an organization that is active in most parishes across Canada. It is founded the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. CCODP is best known for its Share Lent Campaign and this year's focus is on Rwanda, El Salvador & East Timor. Development and Peace is much more than just giving financial aid to Third World peoples - it first and foremost shows the Charity of Christ in the Family of Man. The parish is grateful to Marilyn Kraayvanger for the many years during which she filled this office. Parties who will offer to carry this ministry into the future are invited to contact Don Jones or Fr. Gordon. "Hidden in Plain Sight"-the SOA

Come and see
[This title is Jesus' answer to the disciples when they asked him "Where do you live?"]

What is the priest's role in the liturgy?

The General Instruction opens with this sentence: "The celebration of Mass, as the action of Christ and the people of God arrayed hierarchically, is for the whole church and for each of the faithful, the center of the whole Christian life."

"Hierarchically" does not mean that some people are better than others nor " higher" than others. Perhaps the sound of the word misleads us. "Hierarchy" means that every person has a unique role in life. There are fathers and mothers; there are sons and daughters; some are gifted in various ways; some are physically or emotionally challenged. But each of us has a role in life that no one else can fill. And that is also true for us when we are at Mass. The General Instruction continues: "It is of the greatest importance that the celebration of the Mass, the Lord's Supper, be so arranged that the sacred ministers and the faithful who take their own proper part in it may more abundantly gain its fruits."

That is why the Second Vatican Council placed such new emphasis on the laity participating actively in the Mass. It wrote: "The Church desires this kind of participation, the nature of the celebration demands it, and for the Christian people it is their right and duty by reason of their baptism."

But whether it is the role of the laity or the role of the priest that we are focusing on, it is the action of Christ that is taking place. (And more on that is yet to be said.)
